Why use a tire-contact clamp

Finished, polished or unusually shaped wheels can make rim contact undesirable or difficult. A tire-contact design can reduce the risk of marking the wheel and simplify installation on some assemblies. It is an alternative mounting method, not a universal replacement for every wheel clamp.

Managing tire compliance

Unlike a metal rim, a tire sidewall and tread can deflect. The clamp must distribute force predictably and remain within its approved tire diameter and width range. Uneven pressure, very low inflation, unusual tread blocks or damaged tires can affect stability. The tire should be inspected before mounting measurement equipment.

Verification before measurement

After installation, confirm that all contact points are engaged, the clamp is centered as intended and the target cannot move independently. Complete the aligner’s required compensation process. If readings change after steering or rolling, inspect clamp stability before assuming a vehicle condition.
